BOO YAHH!! Its that time for moi to guide you on where to go what it to do in the big bad Dar. So here's what's crackalackin this weekend!!
Furahiday 18th March
Piano Piano @ Peninsula Bar
Sip fine wines and cocktails whilst getting lost in the sounds of the grand piano, in this Italian styled lounge at the Double Tree Hilton hotel, every Friday and Saturday from 8pm till late.
The Chemists Musings: If you wanna keep it a lil quiet and chilled, especially over lent, this may be the answer you've been searching for.
Sea food night at Bandari Grill
For the taste of some exquisite sea food in a quaint setting, head to Banfari Grill at the New Africa Hotel. Featuring international cuisine, the sole purpose here is to serve your palate.
The Chemists Musings: Once in a while, it doesn't hurt to treat ourselves or others to fine dining. So, why not?
Indian Buffet @ Boodles Restaurant
Head downtown to this untapped gem of a restaurant for some tantilising Indian Cuisine. At 14,000 per person, the price is not bad at all, whilst the food speaks for itself.
The Chemists musings: Having dined at Boodles numerous times and never been disappointed, all I can say is GO, GO THERE NOW!
Saturday 20th March
Jikhoman & Afrikabisa Band live @ Sweet Eazy
From 8pm, its reggae, reggae and more reggae as Jikhoman & Co hit the stage!
The Chemists Musings: I've never been, mostly because I'm not the biggest reggae fan in the world, but, from word-of-mouth reviews, Jikhoman is not half bad.
Thank me later...PEACE!
For updates on whats happening, where 2 go & sometimes where not to in the buzzing Dar es Salaam social scene, allow me to be your consultant.
Thank me later...
So here's whats cracalackin @ TUESDAYYYY!
TOP PICK: EVANS BUKUKUs COMEDY CLUB @ SWEET EAZY
Vuvuzela Entertainment brings you Evans Bukuku's Comedy Club once again! Live Standup Comedy from Evans Bukuku and Fellow comedians. & on the extras plate, a special video screening of the Comedy Club's Mombasa Show that was Live on Mnet!
The Chemists Musings:
Finally, we have an alternative to the usual slap-stick, cross-dress, farce that some call comedy that has been extremely over-done in-country. I haven't seen Evans and his Comedy Club perform live before but I have seen clips and heard the rave reviews. Never did I think that we'll have a stand-up comedian, let alone one growing in prominence, but for once, I've been pleasantly surprised by my country! Hopefully, the show will not be a let-down. I have a good feeling about this!
BARS
Beat The Traffic @ The Bottleneck Bar, New Africa Hotel
Take full advantage of this happy hour offer from the Bottleneck Bar (1st Floor, New Africa Hotel) in its relaxed and easy setting and long day's work. All drinks half price.
The Chemists Musings:
Again, why they call this 'beat the traffic' is beyond me, especially when you're waiting for traffic to die down, rather than beating traffic. Still, if you work in town and live out of it, why risk shooting somebody (and jail time) due to road rage caused by traffic when you could be sipping on a cold one (or two or three) at the comfortable Bottleneck Bar for their happy hours between 17:30 - 19:30, Monday to Friday. I've been there, done that, and if I didn't work and live out of town, I'd do it some more.
Samaki Samaki (Mlimani City & Mbezi)
If you love seafood, music and some good drinks, Samaki Samaki @ Mlimani and now in Mbezi (opposite Engen petrol station) is the place for you.
You'll most likely be sold by the unique and distinct interior design & decor of the restaurant/bar. Entirely furnished in wood, with the wood carvings giving a likeable fishermen's feel, Samaki Samaki boasts some of the best sea-food in Dar, topped off with a good atmosphere.
The Chemists Musings
Bottom line, I'm a fan of the place. I've not yet met someone who disliked the spot. I've met folks who found the place average, but I've know a lot of people who love it. It is one of the few combinations of good food, decent service and good music all in one place in this city! Samaki Samaki is open daily but comes alive on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights as the resident DJ spins tracks ranging from Morgan Heritage to Mark Morison to P'Square to Drake to....you get the picture. In my humble opinion, if you're looking for a nite out but dont know where to go, this is probably your best starting point....and chances are, you wont leave.
These be the main events for Tuesday nite! Have fun out there!
